The second outing of this year's edition of "American Idol" fell a steep 27 percent in the ratings from its performance on the same night last year -- and 44 percent from its number two years ago.

"American Idol" rolled into Pittsburgh last night for, surprisingly, the first time in the show's history. The first in a series of one-hour audition episodes, Thursday night's "Idol" yielded chiefly great, or at least moderately good, singers.

"American Idol" is having a bit of a Goldilocks moment. When the nation's favorite TV addiction debuted 10 years ago, critics complained the judges were too mean to the hordes of would-be singers seeking celebrity.

The "American Idol" audition caravan rolled into Pittsburgh on Thursday night for part two of Season 11's two-night premiere.
