TEHRAN, Iran (AP) — Iran's state TV is reporting Azerbaijan's defense minister pledges not to allow anyone to attack Iran through his country. The report says the visiting minister, Gen. Safar Abiyev, told reporters Azerbaijan will not act against "great Iran" or allow such an attack.

Anti-government protests planned to coincide with Eurovision Song Contest.

Iran challenged Azerbaijan on Tuesday over $1.5 billion in arms it said were purchased from arch-foe Israel, state media reported, in a sign of further strains between the neighbouring countries.

Iran is confident that neighboring Azerbaijan would not allow attacking forces to pass through its territory, Iran's President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said Monday, according to the official IRNA news agency.
